Otterbourne Football Club First Team Match Reports

Monday 30th August 2010 - Colden Common 1 Otterbourne 4

The local derby away to Common on the Bank Holiday Monday produced a very entertaining match for the neutral.

Otterbourne had just lost there un-beaten record away to Paulsgrove and changes had to be made to cover un-availability, Andy Kerr and Liam Davies coming back to the side.

Common started brightly and could have gone in front but blazed one opportunity wide, and then Jamie pulled off a great save to his left to keep us in it. This seemed to gee the whole Otterbourne team up and the midfield started to up their work rate and were getting on top and a great ball out to Liam allowed him to jink past the full back and deliver a cross straight to Nashy but his shot was well saved by the keeper. Then Darren got down the left and hit a low cross into the box, a Common defender deflected it out to the edge of the box to Aaron who smashed the ball past the keeper and into the net.

This seemed to deflate Common and we were now rampant. With the midfield and defence snuffing out any Common moves we were able to get good service into the strikers, again Liam fed Nashy who drifted past his defender and un-leashed a shot which the keeper parried into the air and Nash was quickly onto it and headed past the stranded keeper.

With Mead and Knight working hard in the middle it soon produced the platform for Aaron to get his second. The ball was won in the middle of the park and fed out to Craig who interchanged passes with Darren the ball was then fed into Aaron’s feet and he made no mistake by sending the keeper the wrong way with his shot.

At half time Common made some changes by bring the ex-Otter Lloyd Jenvey on and changing one of the fullbacks.

This did improve Common’s play and they started with a re-newed confidence. Their pressure on the Otters defence nearly paid dividends when we didn’t deal with a cross and the Common striker got a shot away but into the side netting.

After this scare Common got a goal their play deserved and although Jamie got his hand to the ball he couldn’t prevent it going in.

Otters realized they were in a game and started to improve, Aaron provided us with a great chance to go four up when he squared the ball for the on rushing Knight who tamely knocked his shot at the keeper.
Then Nashy had another chance when he was fed the ball by Mead he skipped past the defender and his shot was well saved by the Common keeper.

Jamie in the Otterbourne goal was having to stay alert as Common managed to break through our back line he came out and forced the striker wide who could only hit the side netting, he then had to come out sharply and save at their strikers feet.

Daunter replaced Aaron who had run himself into the ground. Daunter had a quick snap shot which the keeper got down to then he received the ball and as Knight overlapped he switched play to the un-marked Nash on the edge of the box he took one step and smashed the ball past the keeper to kill the game off.

Now into Europe for a Hants Intermediate cup game against West Wight!
